As part of the Cordoba Guitar Festival’s education program, with which Casa Árabe is collaborating once again this year, we will be hosting this workshop led by Syrian oud player Hames Bitar. It will be held on Thursday, July 9. Sign up now!
Born into a family with a tradition of music in its past, in Syria in 1968, Hames Bitar learned to play the Arabic oud with his father and has therefore been involved in music from a very young age. His artistic curiosity led him to explore Western music by playing the guitar, as well, and once he reached Spain, he took an interest in flamenco.
He has performed with many different Arab music groups and in various shows, as both an oud player and as a musical director, collaborating and recording with many artists, including Radio Tarifa, Javier Paxariño and Michael Oliver.
He recorded an album titled Puertas de Oriente, with Fundación El Legado Andalusí and, and together with other musicians, he formed the group Darawish, which released its first album, Madar, in 2020.
At the Córdoba Guitar Festival, in addition to this workshop, he will be performing in a concert featuring the Cardamom Trio and Linda Alahmad.
