During the second half of 2026, Casa Árabe will continue to offer a series of arts education courses. This time around, we are presenting the first part of “The Artistic Legacy of Al-Andalus” in Cordoba, taking place from September 22 to December 22 over the course of 14 sessions. Registration will become available as of September.

Taught by Prof. Marisa Campillo, the purpose of the course is to provide participants with the tools necessary to describe and analyze the art of our heritage from Al-Andalus across various time periods, while recognizing and identifying its major architectural works. The first session will be taking place on September 22, 2026.

This course aims to take participants on a journey through Al-Andalus, exploring various religious, civil and military structures less known than more familiar sites like the Cordoba Mosque, the Giralda in Seville or the Alhambra in Granada.

To do so, we will be using the Council of Europe’s “The Routes of Al-Andalus Legacy” as a guide book:
• The Route of the Umayyads, the Caliphate, the Almoravids and Almohads, and the Nasrids.
• Routes inspired by notable figures, such as the poet and philosopher Ibn al-Khatib, the geographer al-Idrisi, the poet and Taifa king al-Mutamid and Washington Irving.

The “El legado Andalusí” Foundation of the Regional Government of Andalusia is responsible for publicizing these tours, promoting awareness of the cultural heritage of the Spanish-Muslim period.

The eight centuries of Al-Andalus’ existence left an indelible artistic mark on its territory, with unique characteristics that set it apart from the rest of the Iberian Peninsula and Europe.

The course has been designed for people who are curious about culture and enjoy art.

OBJECTIVES
- To provide participants with all of the knowledge they require to achieve a greater awareness of the art and culture in their surrounding environment.
