After the summer break, all of our students will be returning to class. This includes students at our Arabic Language Center. As of August 25, they will be able to register for the first quarter of the 2026–27 academic year (venues yet to be determined). In addition to our regular offerings of Modern Standard Arabic and dialect courses, this year we are adding consolidation courses and specialized courses in International Arabic: Diplomacy and Journalism, designed for diplomats, journalists and business professionals. 

College students are also returning to the classroom, and so, in late September, the eighth edition of Aula Árabe Universitaria (AAU) will begin, our conference series organized with the cooperation of more than 25 undergraduate and graduate programs at public and private universities in Madrid, Cordoba and the surrounding area. Through this series, we’ll be able to gain insight into the Arab world from international experts on a variety of topics, ranging from youth and social movements to issues such as water, heritage preservation, and conflicts, as well as history, literature and film. The eighth edition of AAU will feature more than 15 conferences, which this year are linked to the focus area of the AECID’s Masar al’an program, to be announced very soon. 

Our training programs are not limited to Madrid alone. In Cordoba, a new edition of our now-traditional artistic training course is returning, and this year’s edition will be dedicated to the artistic legacy of Al-Andalus. Taught by Professor Marisa Campillo, the course will consist of 14 theoretical sessions and guided tours that will allow participants to describe and analyze the art of Al-Andalus’ legacy through its different eras and architectural works. 

Conferences, courses, workshops and literature will allow us to discover, learn and reflect upon heritage, a theme that features prominently in our schedule of events, especially in Cordoba. In that city, we will once again be taking part in Heritage Night, to be held on September 11 and 12, when we will have extended opening hours at our headquarters and exhibitions. 

For a wider audience—and without forgetting the ninth centennial of Averroes’ birth—until December, we will be continuing our series of educational workshops designed to teach participants about the region’s history and archeology through craftsmanship. The exhibition “Lo que queda entremedias / What Lies in Between” will remain open through September. This exhibition features works by artists Tamara Kalo, Taysir Batniji, and Nadia Traboulsi on the subjects of memory, identity and transformation, and formed part of the events in PhotoEspaña 2025. 

Then arriving at our Cordoba headquarters will be “Time Together: 2006-2026. 20 Years of Casa Árabe and Friendship Between Spain and the Arab World”, through which we are celebrating our twentieth anniversary, with a look back on two decades of relations between Spain and the Arab countries, as well as the role that Casa Árabe has played in supporting and strengthening those ties through public diplomacy. This photo exhibition will be on display in the city starting in late October. 

As part of our twentieth-anniversary celebrations, and in accordance with our commitment to academic research in the field of Arab studies, we will be host the twenty-eighth conference of the Research Forum on the Arab and Muslim World (FIMAM) at our Cordoba headquarters during the month of October. Starting on October 21 and continuing for three days, researchers from Spain and other countries will get the opportunity to present early-stage, ongoing or completed research on a variety of topics related with contemporary Arab and Islamic studies from a social sciences perspective. 

In Madrid, as part of this anniversary celebration, the exhibition “Sharikat: Spanish Companies in Arab Countries. 20 Years of Shared Projects,” organized in collaboration with Tecniberia, will highlight the projects carried out by Spanish companies in the region over the past two decades, as well as the contribution they have made to the socioeconomic and technological development of these countries and the relationships of mutual trust built during this period. The exhibition includes a digital map of projects (Sharikat MAP), developed with the support of ICEX, which features more than 300 projects in sectors that have a significant impact and technological content. The exhibition will be on view this fall in Madrid, at venues yet to be determined. 

If literature is more your thing, this year we are once again collaborating with the “Leer y pasear” (“Read and Stroll”) initiative, a program of literary walking tours organized by the Cordoba Municipal Library Network which invites us to explore the city through different readings. As part of our cooperation, literary works linked to the era of Al-Andalus and Cordoba’s heritage will be featured in seven of the 14 proposed walks. 

In November, the show “Diván del Tamarit” will present a musical performance based on Federico García Lorca’s poetic works, paying tribute to the Arab poets of Granada, as part of the “Mediterranean Poetics” series to be held in Cordoba this fall. These are just a few of the events we have planned for the next quarter.
